The Parting

The Parting

His words ringing still in her ears
the touch of shy lips on her cheek
she ‘s wandering restless from room to room
that ‘s filled with his presence. Tears
will not come - but she feels weak.
His bouquet is in bloom.

His laughter is echoing through her heart,
she remembers his hazel-eyes smiling.
She strolls in dreamy mood through the day
not yet accepting that he ‘d to depart.
Her innermost feelings are ailing.
He is by now on his way.

But soon she ‘ll call his image in vain
‘cause time lets it wither slowly away.
In vain she ‘ll recall his tender speech.
There only murmurs the soft dripping rain
which cools the air after heat of the day.
Now and then a letter ‘ll reach.
