Bells are ringing.
Smell of roasted meat
arise. Children play
in white clothing – neat
and happy.

Someone’s singing
in the heat of the noon
an ancient ballad
of love under the moon
and joy to be.
 
 Pallid sunbeams steal
through the blind
at the open window.
Some rays find
the torn up letter 
and glow
 
 on the sharpened steel 
of a knife.
Draught suddenly whirls
paper scraps to life
and scatters
them in swirls
