Bonnie Brooke

Farmhouse Tea

Thick creamy milk cooling in the fridge,
straight from the cow it had to be.
White turnover bread cut extra thick laid out,
smothered in full-fat butter and home-made jam.
Boots clunk in through the back door,
narrowly missing Amber the cat.
Then weariness melts in the warm kitchen,
as this frost weary farmer savours his tea.
