THIRD SONG FOR JOY

...if with the blood-red plowshare

and the fiery plow I could reach the heart

and, furrowing its soil, cultivate joy!

...and if afterwards there were a celebration

and a jubilant wind poured into the streets
this discovery of mine—the joy of humankind,
Life itself—who wouldn't live?

Who wouldn't go out in search of pure gold and, finding it,
wouldn't trample their own heart to keep living,
who, who wouldn't?
