Ray Boorman

AFORE THE DAWN

I spied from my window a misty sea,
I heard the squark of seagulls cry
whilst gently soaring in the sky
so graceful as they swoop and fly,
How wonderful to be wild and free.

I washed my canvas a pastel blue,

saw rocky crags in yonder bay
watched white horses dance and play
and all before the break of day,
So paint my picture with misty hue.

This was someone sitting in a sea-front hotel bedroom
looking out over the bay with their easel and brushes
at the ready. (never did get to see the finished painting)
